    Q: How to replace the primary cam gear and timing chain on Cadillac DTS?
    A:
    In order to replace the timing chain and sprockets, remove the Oil Pump. Analyze the timing marks using the j 39946 (Crankshaft Socket-4.0L and 4.6L). Next, pull the secondary timing chains from both right and left sides out. After that, remove the timing chain tensioner and the camshaft intermediate sprocket retaining bolt. Stand the right side of the engine in engine hoist and hang it in the special manner as shown in the picture. Then, follow the right parts and kits as indicated by pictures to remove the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, and camshaft intermediate sprocket which will be as an assembly. Check if the vtec hydraulic system (washers, oil chambers, and nozzles) is clean. While installing, match the timing marks of the camshaft intermediate and crankshaft sprockets into a vertical position. Mount the main timing chain on the drive sprockets with the no. 1 piston at the top dead center and the crankshaft keyway in the 1 o'clock position. Line up the j39946 to align the crankshaft key with the drive sprocket and install the timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, and camshaft intermediate sprocket as an assembly. Re-torque the camshaft intermediate sprocket retaining bolt to 60nm (44lb.ft). Do not disconnect the pin that holds the tensioner until the secondary timing chains have been installed. Install the main chain tensioner and other secondary timing chains on both sides. Finally, install the water pump.
