- Q: How to replace the rear-wheel drive inlet power steering hose on 2008 Cadillac CTS?A: The first step to replace the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose on rear-wheel drive automobiles involves draining sufficient power steering fluid from the remote reservoir. The Power Steering Pump pulley along with the front air deflector require removal as the first step. First place drain pans beneath the vehicle as required before you detach the lower intermediate Steering Shaft from the steering gear and break connections between the steering knuckles and the outer tie rods of the steering linkage. The power steering gear inlet hose fitting requires disconnecting from the Power Steering Pump before proceeding to separate lower control arms from steering knuckles. First remove the power steering inlet pipe bracket bolt then disconnect the power steering inlet hose plastic retainer from its inlet pipe clip bracket. After supporting the front frame with jackstands you must remove the power steering gear inlet hose bracket bolt. You must remove engine mount bolts from the left and right side then disconnect all front frame electrical harnesses along with the power steering gear solenoid electrical connector. The front frame bolts must be removed before lifting the hoisted vehicle. Slowly increase the height to enable easy steering gear removal. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose which is attached to the vehicle. To put in place the new power steering gear inlet hose you must slowly lower the vehicle with the front frame perfectly aligned to the engine mounts. Start all engine mount bolts manually before installing the front frame bolts and then torque the engine mount bolts. After connecting all electrical harnesses and solenoid electrical connectors to the power steering gear solenoid on the front frame remove the jackstands. Fasten the power steering gear inlet hose bracket bolt before tightening it to 9 n.m (80 lb in). The power steering gear inlet hose plastic retainer must be attached to the inlet pipe clip bracket and the power steering gear inlet pipe bracket bolt put in place at 22.5 n.m (17 lb ft). Subsequently, secure the power steering gear inlet hose fitting to the Power Steering Pump while torquing it to 38 n.m (28 lb ft). Perform the following installations: lower control arms to steering knuckles while linking the steering linkage outer tie rods to steering knuckles and setting the lower intermediate Steering Shaft to the steering gear. Wipe off all surplus fluid on the vehicle then position the front air deflector and Power Steering Pump pulley. The power steering system requires both filling and bleeding as a final step.
