  A: Disabling the sir system must happen before installing new parts for the Steering Angle Sensor or Steering Shaft lower bearing. Start by removing the Steering Column followed by detaching the turn signal switch housing assembly from the vehicle. Take off the tilt spring before extracting 2 pivot pins from the Steering Column support assembly with the pivot pin remover (J 21854-01). Begin by removing the boot seal and then remove the Steering Shaft seal when no sensor is detected. Remove the sensor retainer if necessary. Follow this installation sequence: remove the sensor locator when the sensor exists, remove the sensor assembly when it exists. Install the combination of sensor retainer and Steering Shaft seal. Begin sensor installation by aligning it at 9 o'clock before adding the sensor locator then the boot seal. First install the Steering Shaft assembly into the Steering Column tilt head assembly before placing the tilt head assembly combined with the Steering Shaft into the Steering Column jacket assembly. Install a new Steering Column support assembly because previous stake marks have reached their third instance. Lubricate the Steering Column support assembly's pivot pins using gm p/n 12346293 (Canadian P/N 992723) before installing both pins and staking them in three locations. Reinstall the tilt spring assembly and turn signal switch housing before reinserting the Steering Column into the vehicle then activate the sir system.
