How to Replace a Shift Knob on a Transmission Control Lever on 2007 Cadillac CTS?

The procedure to replace the Shift Knob starts by using a flat bladed tool to apply rotation pressure between the shift knob and shift knob trim ring until the trim ring separates from the knob. Before pulling the shift knob straight up from the shift control shaft you should loosen the shift knob retaining screw 3 turns. Place the shift knob properly on the shift control shaft then add the shift knob retaining screw only if you removed it before installation; tighten this screw to 2 N.m (18 lb in). Install the shift knob trim ring onto the shift knob as the final step.
