How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on 2006 GMC Sierra 3500?

Before you replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor you need to lower the cooling system below the sensor level. Before removing the ECT sensor disconnect its electrical connector and unmount it from around the oil fill tube bracket. Apply GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or its equivalent sealant to the sensor threads when reinstalling original equipment. Tighten the ECT sensor to a torque force of 50 N.m (37 lb ft) during installation. Install the electrical connector for the ECT sensor to the oil fill tube bracket then seal the ECT sensor electrical connector to its appropriate spot. Finally, refill the cooling system.
