2006 Chevrolet HHR Oxygen Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) at Position 1 on 2006 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The first step to replace a heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) at position 1 requires the removal of the exhaust manifold heat shield. Automatic transaxle owners need to remove their connector position assurance (CPA) retainer before disconnecting the engine harness electrical connector which serves the ho2s. Individuals with manual transaxles should both detach the cpa retainer along with removing the engine harness electrical connector from the ho2s. First disconnect the ho2s electrical connector clip at the Thermostat Housing before unscrewing the ho2s itself and removing it. Installation of the ho2s requires the application of anti-seize compound gm p/n 12377953 or equivalent to threads when reinstalling an aged sensor to improve future sensor removal. Tighten the installed ho2s to 42 n.m (31 lb ft). Connect the ho2s to the engine harness electrical connector for manual transaxles and then attach the cpa retainer. Automatic transaxle users must attach the engine harness electrical connector to an ho2s then put in the cpa retainer. As a final step, attach the ho2s electrical connector clip to the Thermostat Housing before putting back the exhaust manifold heat shield.
