2006 Chevrolet Equinox Fan Shroud Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the cooling fan and fan shroud on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: As the first step to replace the cooling fan and shroud collect the tools which include ge-47716 (1617 Vac N Fill Coolant Refill Tool). The cooling fan swap begins with removing the front fascia followed by drain coolants. The first step requires you to disconnect electric connectors between fan motors then unfasten the wire harness from around the fan assembly. The first step is to remove both condenser Radiator fan module closeout panel retainers from the condenser before proceeding to take the crfm closeout panel off. Proceed by removing the front impact bar and thereafter detach the crfm mounting bracket bolts from the Radiator support before removing the crfm mounting brackets. Start the Radiator inlet hose removal by disconnecting the clamp and hose from the Radiator while also unclipping transmission cooler lines which detach from the fan assembly at the Radiator. First order is to remove the fan assembly bolts then the fan assembly from the Radiator while positioning the condenser and Radiator assembly ahead of the right-hand front impact bar bracket until you can extract the fan assembly from the vehicle. Installation requires first mounting the fan assembly onto the vehicle then mounting the condenser and Radiator assembly onto its position. The Radiator should receive the fan assembly by guiding it while the lower tabs match the Radiator's hooks before tightening the bolts to 9 nm (80 inch lbs.). Attach the Radiator inlet hose while securing its clamp before you join the transmission cooler lines to the Radiator with their fans. Secure the crfm mounting brackets along with their bolts onto the Radiator support by tightening them to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Reinstall the front impact bar together with the crfm closeout panel and its retainers onto the condenser while clip-connecting the engine wire harness to the fan assembly. The last step is to attach the electrical connectors to the fan motors followed by reinstallation of the front fascia and filling up the cooling system.
