The procedure for crankshaft front oil seal replacement begins with crankshaft balancer and front cover oil seal removal. A lubricant should not be applied to the oil seal surface and the crankshaft oil seal should be discarded before installation. The new oil seal's external surface must be treated with clean engine oil together with a similar treatment of the front cover oil seal bore. Place the crankshaft front oil seal onto the installation guide of the J41478 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer (J41478). Fasten the J41478 threaded rod with its attached nut, washer, guide, and oil seal inside the crankshaft end point for guide installation through the cover bore using the J41478. When holding the installer bolt hex with a wrench apply another wrench to tighten the installer nut clockwise until the seal reaches full position in the cover bore. Recover J41478 tool then check that the oil seal fits perfectly in the front cover bore. Finally, reinstall the crankshaft balancer.
