2005 Chevrolet Corvette Exhaust Manifold Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the left exhaust manifold on 2005 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Start replacement of the left Exhaust Manifold by detaching both the engine sight cover together with the bank 1 sensor 1 Oxygen Sensor located on the Exhaust Manifold. First disconnect the spark plugs before removing the generator along with the vehicle lift and taking off the Catalytic Converter. Remove the Exhaust Manifold bolts while having the vehicle in its lowered position. The heat assembly on the Exhaust Manifold needs to be detached first to obtain enough space needed for removal. Following exhaustion of the Exhaust Manifold work, lift the vehicle higher to mount the catalyst converter onto the intermediate pipe before clamping it since proper Exhaust Manifold positioning on the cylinder head requires this setup. After setting the vehicle at its lowest position carefully position the Catalytic Converter. Then apply the 5 mm wide threadlock gm p/n 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953489) band around all Exhaust Manifold bolt threads. Insert the Exhaust Manifold on top of its new gasket before securing the Exhaust Manifold bolts. The Exhaust Manifold bolts require two-stage tightening with a first step starting from the center to side alternation using 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) torque then continuing to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque with the same lateral bolt sequence. To complete the procedure install bank 1 sensor 1 Oxygen Sensor and both spark plugs and the generator while reinstalling the engine sight cover. Once the vehicle is lifted again users should install the Catalytic Converter followed by tightening Exhaust Manifold nuts to 20 nm (15 ft. Lbs.) before applying equal torque to the exhaust clamps on the Catalytic Converter bolt. Finally, lower the vehicle.
