- Q: How to replace the right camshaft on 2005 Cadillac CTS?A: The right Camshaft replacement process requires removal of the upper Intake Manifold and lower Intake Manifold before extracting the Camshaft cover and Camshaft sensors and intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid. The Crankshaft balancer should be removed before rotating the Crankshaft with Crankshaft rotation socket (EN 46111) to achieve neutral (low tension) Camshaft position where Camshaft flat surfaces match the Camshaft cover rail alignment. Apply an open-end wrench on the Camshaft hex to stop Camshaft motion but keep the Camshaft position actuator bolt in place since it should not be removed yet. Use the Timing Chain retention tool en 46108 to reach the Timing Chain fully and follow by installing it to maintain the Timing Chain position while securely tightening the nuts. Note down the positions of the Timing Chain and its corresponding markings on the Camshaft position actuators for correct reassembly. The Camshaft position actuator bolt must be removed first before extracting both Camshaft bearing caps and the Camshaft. The installation requires proper alignment of marks on the Camshaft position actuators and Timing Chain but the Camshaft position actuator bolt must not be tightened. Set the camshafts into place on the Cylinder Head before you install both the Camshaft actuators and then add the camshafts along with the Camshaft bearing caps. Insert the Crankshaft balancer into place followed by discarding the Timing Chain retention tool (EN 46108). Use the open-end wrench on the Camshaft hex to stop rotation for proper installation and tightness of the Camshaft position actuators. To finish the procedure you must install the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid as well as the Camshaft sensors before adding the Camshaft cover then finally placing the upper Intake Manifold onto the lower Intake Manifold.
