- Q: How to replace the negative battery cable (RHD) on 2005 Cadillac CTS?A: The first step to change the battery negative cable (RHD) involves disconnecting the battery negative cable from its source. Use a wrench to remove the bolt that holds the battery negative cable to the side rail while disconnecting the body harness connector from the cable. After raising and stabilizing the vehicle remove the bolt which keeps the battery negative cable on the engine block before you can extract the cable from the motor. Position the new battery negative cable to the engine before bolting it into place against the engine block with torque at 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Turn down the vehicle before inserting the bolt that attaches the battery negative cable to the side rail while torquing it to 36 n.m (27 lb ft). Connect the body harness connector to the battery negative cable before reattaching the same cable. New cable installation requires the use of identical replacement cables with the matching diameter and length along with the exact routing as the original cables.
