2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Fuel Injector Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to clean and service the fuel injector on 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: The first step to service the Fuel Injector requires opening the fuel fill cap to reduce vapor pressure inside the Fuel Tank. The service begins with removing the pcv clean air tube from the air inlet duct followed immediately by the resonator and air inlet duct from the Throttle Body. The Intake Manifold receives two removal steps. Start by isolating the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose and the connector, then detach the central sequential fuel injection (CSFI) fuel metering body electrical connector. Spark plug wires and the fuel line bolt need to be removed from cylinders 1, 3, and 5 at the Distributor Cap combined with the fuel line bolt removal at the rear of the Intake Manifold. Unplugging the fuel system pressure while carefully taking off the fuel pipe nuts and clamp allows proper placement of o-rings and washers and spacers. Begin by attaching the j 44466-12 and j 44466-13 to the fuel metering body before tightening them while simultaneously installing the j 44466-11 and clamp with j 44466-13 on the fuel pipe. Finally, complete securing all the components with tight fasteners. Install the j 44466-10 hose onto the j 41413 tank while using the j 41413 valve to block the tank. After removing the regulator assembly place the j 41413 into the tank. The j 44466-10 hose must be attached to the j 44466-12 metering body while the j 39021 and j 39021-210 and j 39021-301 components should be assembled to the electrical connector of the metering body with the amperage selector switch on the j 39021 adjusted to 0.5 amps. Open the valves connected to the tank and j 44466-10 while using them to pressurize the fuel system until minimum pressure reaches 150 psi. The j 39021 should be utilized to fire each injector while monitoring the pressure drop for verification purposes. This procedure must be repeated for all injectors. Cease the pressure flow on the j 41413 tank by using the j 44466-10's pressure release function. Reinstall the fresh air tube while disconnecting the j 44466-10 from both the j 44466-12 and j 41413 and removing the j 39021-301 and j 39021-210, j 39021 from the metering body. First, reattach the vehicle electrical connector then install the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose followed by connecting the ignition wires until completion with the resonator and air intake duct. Initiate the j 38500-a procedure by closing its bottom valve followed by adding top engine cleaner gm p/n 1050002 (Canadian P/N 992872) and filling it with regular unleaded gasoline before hanging the j 38500-a inside the hood. Start by attaching the hose from j 38500-a to the service port on the j 44466-12 . Then open the bottom valve on j 38500-a before connecting a shop air source which requires pressure regulation to 75 psi. Following the completion of fuel exhaust the vehicle should have the shop air supply removed from j 38500-a while depresurizing that tool. Then remove the hose from j 44466-12 followed by another removal of pcv clean air tube resonator and ignition wires. The j 44466-12 requires bleeding of residual pressure before removing both j 44466-13 and j 44466-12 from the metering body followed by removal of j 44466-13 and clamp and j 44466-11 from the fuel pipe. Insert the fuel pipe to its mounting position on the metering body by setting into place the fuel pipe clamp and tightening its nuts followed by application of threadlock gm p/n 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) to the fuel pipe bolt before performing additional torque. Connect the Brake Booster Vacuum Hose and resonator and pcv clean air tube and add 1 ounce of port Fuel Injector cleaner gm p/n 12345104 (Canadian P/N 12345515) to the Fuel Tank for each gallon of gasoline. Check Fuel Tank leaks by starting the engine then examine stored powertrain dtc codes using a tech ii scan tool before wiping out any detected codes. Hand tighten the Fuel Tank filler cap followed by engine start-up. End the advice by instructing the customer to pick different fuel from a different company.
