2003 Chevrolet SSR Brake Master Cylinder Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the brake master cylinder on 2003 Chevrolet SSR?
A: Start with parking brake activated and disconnect both the master cylinder fluid level sensor wire and the brake pipes. Brake fluid leaks and contamination must be stopped by installing rubber plugs at the brake hose fitting openings. Disconnect the brake pipes then take out the master cylinder mounting nuts and assembly before leaking brake fluid from the master cylinder. Begin brake system bleeding at the bench before adding the new master cylinder. Put in the master cylinder mounting nuts sequentially and torque them to 36 nm at 27 ft. Lbs. Plant the rubber plugs into the brake lines and attach the brake pipes before tightening all fittings to 17 nm force (13 ft. Pounds). After attaching the master cylinder fluid level sensor connector you must exhaust air from the hydraulic brake system.
