How to service and repair the starter motor on 2003 Chevrolet Impala?

In order to service the starter motor, unconnect the negative battery cable. As a unit, the starter motor needs to be changed. Unscrew the battery cables, starter solenoid, and lower air deflector covers, and then remove the torque converter covers. Install the new starter motor and reconnect the battery cable with tightening of the bolts.
