2002 Chevrolet Impala Starter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the starter motor that must be replaced as a complete unit on 2002 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Start all Starter motor servicing procedures by disconnecting the negative Battery Cable before replacing this completely unserviceable motor unit. Begin by lifting the vehicle then supporting it before you uninstall the lower air deflector and torque converter covers. The service begins by unfastening the Starter solenoid bat terminal nut followed by separating the positive Battery Cable from the motor. The next step is removing the Starter solenoid s terminal nut along with its wire. Start by removing the bolts (1,2) to extract the Starter motor which requires any removed shims before reinstallation. When installing the pg260 f1 Starter motor on 3.4l engines keep the correct Starter in place then position it correctly by the engine before reinstalling removed shims if needed. Begin by tightening each Starter bolt (1,2) lightly until it reaches the seat before securing them to 43 n.m (32 lb ft). First attach the positive Battery Cable and tighten nut around solenoid bat terminal while next running Starter solenoid wire and tightening nut at s terminal. All users should torque the bat terminal solenoid nut to 10 n.m (89 lb in) and the s terminal Starter solenoid nut to 2.3 n.m (20.5 lb in). The last steps involve putting back the torque converter covers and lower air deflector while lowering the vehicle down followed by reconnecting the negative Battery Cable.
