2003 Chevrolet Impala Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Shift Interlock Solenoid with Column Shift on 2003 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Starting the repair of Shift Interlock Solenoid with Column Shift requires knee bolster bracket removal and termination of the automatic shift lock actuator electrical connector. The actuator needs removal from its position on the steering column ball studs. The automatic shift lock control actuator must be assembled onto the steering column ball studs while reconnecting the electrical connector. Adjust the automatic shift lock actuator only when the column remains in neutral position. Users should activate the adjuster block side tab before using their fingers to press on the block which will enable adjusting the teeth to slide the block to the maximum distance from the actuator. Pull the tab to secure the locking mechanism through tab pressure. Verify that the installed actuator secures the shift lever clevis when placed in park position through inspections; trouble with moveable shift lever without brake pedal usage might require actuator readjustment. You should put back the knee bolster bracket as the last step.
