Drop the tire and wheel and insert the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) at the bottom of the Steering Column. Position the intermediate Steering Shaft seal until it reaches the lower pinch bolt that secures the power steering gear stub shaft. Remove this bolt for replacement. Disable steering by setting the column to lock position and align the front wheels straight ahead to stop incorrect installation when reinstalling parts. After removing the intermediate Steering Shaft from the power steering gear stub shaft the vehicle will need to be lowered. The left instrument panel insulator requires removal to expose the upper pinch bolt before securing the intermediate Steering Shaft seal for the bolt's removal. First disconnect the intermediate Steering Shaft from its position on the Steering Column before removing the shaft itself. The new intermediate Steering Shaft should be installed onto the Steering Column with an upper pinch bolt torque set to 48 n.m (35 lb ft). Position the intermediate Steering Shaft seal onto the Steering Column and raise and support the vehicle again before connecting the intermediate Steering Shaft to the power steering gear stub shaft. Tighten the lower pinch bolt to 48 n.m (35 lb ft) that anchors the intermediate Steering Shaft. Slide out the Steering Column anti-rotation pin (J 42640) and apply the intermediate Steering Shaft seal to the power steering gear. Reinstall the tire and wheel assembly followed by a vehicle descent then complete the process with left instrument panel insulator installation.
