2003 Cadillac CTS Steering Angle Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Steering Angle Sensor on 2003 Cadillac CTS?
A: Starting the replacement of the Steering Angle Sensor requires disabling the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Remove both the turn signal switch housing and the tilt spring from the system. Operations begin with the pivot pin remover (J 21854-01) to remove two steering column support assembly pivot pins. Next, remove the boot seal. The process begins with sensor removal then continuing to remove Steering Shaft seal and sensor retainer. Proceed to sensor locator removal with sensor assembly removal before the sensor presence check. Installation requires Steering Shaft seal and sensor retainer when the sensor is absent. The installation begins with sensor assembly placement at the 9 o'clock position followed by installation of the sensor locator. Place the boot seal first before you position the Steering Shaft assembly inside the steering column tilt head assembly. Place the tilt head assembly together with the Steering Shaft inside the jacket assembly of the steering column. The support system should get replaced when it needs replacing after three stakes. Synthetic grease application precedes the installation of two pivot pins on the steering column support assembly while staking each pin in three locations. Place the tilt spring assembly and turn signal switch housing before enabling the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
