2002 Buick Rendezvous A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to install the A/C Accumulator (ACDelco P/N 15-1697) on 2002 Buick Rendezvous?
A: Before installing the A/C accumulator (ACDelco P/N 15-1697) you must recover A/C system refrigerant while supporting the vehicle. The installation of A/C accumulator (ACDelco P/N 15-1697) begins with removing the radiator air deflector bolts then removing the bolts securing the evaporator inlet tube to the condenser and finally disconnecting the tube. Cut the evaporator inlet tube with a tubing cutter at 110 mm (4.3 in) from the condenser block fitting end with consideration that metal shavings will not enter the tube. Cut the evaporator tube again to 60 mm (2.4 in) keeping only burr-free sections on both sides. The O-rings used in the A/C accumulator must be removed before installing ferrules to the evaporator inlet tube. The tapered end of the ferrule should face the flare nut as install one ferrule and one flare nut to the evaporator tube before seating the A/C accumulator onto the evaporator inlet tube with the arrow pointing toward the evaporator. Tighten the flare nut to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Tighten each flare nut on the second half of evaporator tube inlet to the same torque specification. The procedure involves lubricating and installing O-rings on both ends of the evaporator tube followed by reinstallation of the A/C accumulator with its arrow pointing to the evaporator and torqueing the flare nuts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft). Secure the evaporator inlet tube to the condenser by using the securing bolt followed by tightening it to 16 N.m (12 lb ft). Lower the vehicle after reinstalling both the radiator air deflector and its bolts with 20 N.m (15 lb ft) torque and finish by evacuating and recharging the A/C system using the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).
