2001 GMC Jimmy Thermostat Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the thermostat in a 4.3 L engine on 2001 GMC Jimmy?
A: A 4.3 l engine Thermostat replacement begins with draining part of the cooling system. Begin by removing the air cleaner outlet duct before you unscrew throttle body bracket nuts to shift the bracket into position. Detach the water outlet housing from the lower Intake Manifold while removing its mounting bolts. Place the water outlet housing aside for now. Bring out the Thermostat along with gasket or o-ring before you clean all joining surfaces between the water outlet housing and lower Intake Manifold. Inspect all components and sealing areas before putting them together in order to block leaks between parts. Put the Thermostat and a new gasket or o-ring into position before installing the water outlet housing onto the lower Intake Manifold while following the fastener notice in service precautions. Mount the water outlet housing bolts securely at 19 nm torque setting (14 ft. Lbs.) before reattaching the throttle body bracket using nuts tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Complete the cooling system fluid operation and conduct a check for all leakages.
