    A: You should start by emptying the cooling system before continuing with steps to replace a Water Pump on 4.3 l engines. Remove both Water Pump Pulley mounting bolts before taking off the pulley piece. Take off the Water Pump by loosening its mounting bolts while removing both the radiator outlet hose gasket and hose from the pump. Prepare the mating areas for new gaskets before you install and mount the Water Pump onto the engine. Use sealing product gm p/n 12346004 on bolt threads before installing the Water Pump mounting bolts at 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs. Torque). First secure the radiator outlet hose to the Water Pump before adding the Water Pump Pulley bolt and tighten its screws to 55 nm. Put back the Drive Belt then the fan clutch assembly before filling the radiator system and looking for potential leaks.
