2001 Chevrolet Corvette Brake Line Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake line on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Before starting work raise your vehicle and support it at the proper height. Next detach the rear tire and wheel assembly. When finished keep the brake pipe free from dirt by adding a rubber cap or plug to its open end to protect the system. Put the back up wrench on the hose fitting to separate the brake pipe fitting from the hose while you cap or plug the end of the pipe fitting. Keep the brake pipe and bracket straight when you do this. Take out the brake hose retainer from its bracket to access the brake hose. Take out the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt and the brake hose from the brake caliper before discarding two copper brake hose gaskets which might be stuck to the caliper or hose end. Place new copper brake hose gaskets on the brake caliper inlet fitting bolt and brake hose before installing this assembly to the brake caliper with a torque of 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Position the brake hose on the hose bracket using a straight alignment then put on the brake hose retainer to the mounting point. Use a back up wrench to secure the brake pipe fitting onto the brake hose until you reach 18 nm (13 ft. Lbs.) torque. Do not bend both components while completing the connection. After placing the wheel and tire set, use special tools to bleed brake fluid while putting the vehicle back down.
