2001 Chevrolet Corvette Brake Pad Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the front brake pads on 2001 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Begin replacing front brake pads by checking the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid. In case the fluid stands at its mid-mark between limits, leave it untouched. Otherwise, lower the fluid to the mid-point when it reaches higher levels. Lift the car and take off its tire and wheel components. Use your hand to fasten a wheel lug nut onto a wheel stud to keep the rotor stable with the hub. Centralize the two big c-clamps on top and bottom of the caliper unit to compress its pistons effectively through the rotor until you can move them forward. Take down the c-clamps and unscrew the guide pin bolt from the upper brake caliper. Pull the caliper body downward for installation afterward using heavy mechanic's wire. Before your work, secure the flexible brake hose by disconnecting it first. Check the working condition of the Brake Pad retainers by taking them out from the caliper bracket. Replace the caliper boots when finding cuts or deterioration in the slide boots. Place two large c-clamps over the brake caliper with both ends pressed against the rear of the caliper body and put a wood block against the pistons to fully compress the caliper. After taking away both c-clamps insert new Brake Pad retainers into their places and fit the fresh brake pads. Make sure the Brake Pad wear sensor faces backwards on the inboard pad when the rotor turns forward. Fasten the brake caliper into its holding position at the top section of the caliper bracket after positioning it above the brake pads. Install the upper guide pin bolt of the brake caliper and tighten it to 31 nm (23 ft. Lbs. Replace the tire and wheel unit then lower the vehicle. While the engine is off use the Brake Pedal making gradual touching movements until you achieve 2/3 of its extension range then ease off. Press on the Brake Pedal for 15 seconds each time until the pedal becomes strong enough which ensures correct position of brake pistons and pads. When done complete the task by topping up the brake system and letting the pads and rotors become properly seated.
