2000 Chevrolet Impala Starter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the starter motor PG260 F1 on 2000 Chevrolet Impala?
A: Replace the Starter motor pg260 f1 by starting with battery negative cable disconnection and stable vehicle support. Start the replacement process by uninstalling both front lower air deflector panel and torque converter covers. Disconnect the Starter solenoid bat terminal with its nut then separate the Starter solenoid wire utilizing its s terminal nut removal. Use a socket set to remove the two Starter bolts (1,2) to free the Starter motor from its mount. If shims were present they should be retained. During new Starter installation make sure to use pg260 f1 as the specified model and correctly position it on the engine. Reinstall shims if you removed them as a part of installation. Tighten the Starter bolts (1,2) initially with minimal torque sensation until fully seated before applying 43 n.m (32 lb ft). Reattach the positive Battery Cable first then tighten the solenoid bat terminal nut by hand before wiring the Starter solenoid and installing the s terminal nut to finger tight standards. First tighten the bat terminal nut on the solenoid to 9.5 n.m (84 lb in) before turning to 2.5 n.m (20.5 lb in) tightness for the s terminal nut. Afterward, reinstall all torque converter covers followed by the front lower air deflector panel before lowering the vehicle and returning the battery negative cable.
