Saturn Throttle Body is located at the core of the intake, and it is a metal gate that measures the air being passed in and converts the movement of the pedals into sharp engine action. Saturn also did not have a dinged, rusted-out panel like many other aging compacts because they were molded in a resilient polymer, and fender benders did not leave a scar. Flexible skin also reduced curb weight, allowing engines to do less of the same work with a given zip. The engine blocks were lost-foamed cast into shape deep under the hood, with little more than an ounce shaved off and the strength increased simultaneously.
