Pontiac Oil Pan contains and directs the engine oil to ensure that the engine remains lubricated at all times, regardless of the throttle jab. The reputation upon which Pontiac rested was its long track attitude and ability to transform ordinary streets into playgrounds. Drivers were fond of the fact that the cars were sticking to curves, producing rapid launches, and appearing aggressive without flashy gimmicks. The company continued to develop, and sporty trims were added to the family sedans in such a way that both teenagers and their parents could feel noticed. Pontiac cars such as Firebird or Grand Am had a combination of muscle styling and a dashboard design that a good look at it made sense. That combination of actual performance and basic ergonomics implied that owners put their riding on their ride to go school-run daily and on summer trips. Pontiac never followed the economy of boring, even at the end of the line, as its attitude could ride with practicality. The Oil Pan in the center of any engine is no exception, being a low-mounted reservoir underneath the block that pulls the constant lubrication over hard turns and long grades and during stop and go heat. The harder alloy of this Oil Pan also reduces the vibration, hence no rattles. Under braking, internal baffles prevent forward sloshing of the fluids so that the lifters remain healthy by maintaining constant pressure. Since the Oil Pan is as deep as factory depth, ground clearance remains amiable and the installation time remains minimal.

Pontiac Oil Pan Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and remove the oil pan in V6 engine on Pontiac Firebird?
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For carbureted models, remove the air cleaner assembly, tagging each hose to be disconnected with a piece of numbered tape for easier reinstallation; for fuel injected models, remove the air intake duct. Remove the distributor cap to prevent damage when the engine is raised. Unbolt and remove the top half of the fan shroud. Raise the vehicle and support it on jack-stands. Drain the engine oil. Disconnect the exhaust crossover pipe at the exhaust manifold flanges, lower the exhaust pipes, and suspend them from the frame with wire. If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the converter shroud; if equipped with a manual transmission, remove the flywheel cover. Remove the starter. Remove the throughbolt at each engine mount. Using an engine hoist, raise the engine to allow the oil pan to clear the crossmember, checking clearances all around the engine as it is raised, paying particular attention to the distributor and the cooling fan. Place wood blocks between the frame front crossmember and the engine block, ensuring they are approximately three inches thick. Lower the engine onto the wood blocks, making sure it is firmly supported, and if a hoist is being used, keep the lifting chains secured to the engine. Remove the oil pan bolts, noting the different sizes used and their locations, then remove the oil pan. Before installing the pan, ensure that the sealing surfaces on the pan, block, and front cover are clean and free of oil; if the old pan is being reinstalled, ensure that all sealant has been removed from the pan sealing flange and from the blind attaching holes. With all sealing surfaces clean, place a 1/8-inch bead of ATV sealant on the oil pan sealing flange. Lift the pan into position and install all bolts finger tight, tightening the end bolts first and then the remaining bolts working from the center out to the ends. Lower the engine onto the mounts and install the throughbolts, tightening them to the specified torque. Follow the removal steps in reverse order, fill the crankcase with the correct grade and quantity of oil, start the engine, and check for leaks.
  • Q: How to remove and install an oil pan in four cylinder engine on Pontiac G6?
    A:
In order to replace the oil pan, one has to drain the engine oil and also the drivebelt should be removed. Remove right-front wheel lugs lightly, lift the front of the car with the jack, and place it on the jackstands. Then pull the lower air conditioning compressor mounting bolt and the oil pan to timing chain cover bolts, to expose the oil pan forward mounting bolts nearest the subframe, and out the oil pan to engine block bolts. If it is still firmly attached at the lower crankcase, use a rubber mallet, or better still a block of wood and a hammer to gently hit it so that it comes off; do not force yourself to pry on any part, just use the end of the casting that is sticking out. Before installation clean the lower crankcase and oil pan with gasket scraper and washing the area with solvent to remove soya debris. Cover the later surface of oil pan, in-board of the bolt holes and the oil suction port with 2mm bead of RTV sealant before fixing the oil pan in position with the bolts. Once all the bolts are properly aligned snug the pan to transaxle bolts before proceeding to snug the pan to block bolts in sequence up to the specified torque. The rest of the installation procedures are the reverse of removal and the wheel lug nuts must be tightened to the right torque. Also, add more oil into the engine, put a new oil filter, start the engine and look for any stains.
