How to Replace the Secondary Air Injection Pump on GMC Canyon?

Starting the secondary air injection pump replacement begins with opening the hood to disconnect both the AIR pump inlet hose quick connect fitting and the outlet hose quick connect fitting from the pump. You must first remove the engine shield along with unconnecting the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the AIR pump wiring harness electrical connector. The elastic action of pressing the clip holding the AIR pump wiring harness electrical connector separates it from the bracket after which you must open the clip to remove the harness. First disconnect the AIR pump nuts while lowering the vehicle before you reposition the hoses of the AIR pump inlet and outlet. Finally pull out the AIR pump from its installation location. You should begin by placing the AIR pump in its designated position followed by raising and supporting the vehicle before installing the AIR pump nuts with 9 Nm (80 lb in) torque. You should install the AIR pump wiring harness electrical connector clip onto its bracket and then connect both the wiring harness and electrical connector before closing the clip. The engine shield should be reattached while placing AIR pump inlet and outlet hoses into position for connecting the pump outlet hose quick connect fitting and inlet hose quick connect fitting before closing the hood.

The first step for secondary air injection (AIR) pump replacement is to lift up the vehicle. First detach both air pipes from the air reaction pump before removing the Relay from its bracket and breaking the electric connector from the air pump. The installation begins by taking out the air pump from the vehicle after removing its 3 frame securing bolts. After placement of the air pump inside its installation slot position the three bolts on the vehicle frame until torque reaches 20 n.m (15 lb ft). Complete the electrical connector connection to the air pump followed by installing the electrical Relay on the air pump bracket then finalize contact between the air inlet and outlet pipes and the air pump by checking for debris before connection. Finally, lower the vehicle.
