To replace the upper Control Arm, start by supporting the vehicle and lifting it up. Support the lower Control Arm by a jack stand, remove the tire and the wheel. Next, disassemble the retaining bolts for the brake hose and the wheel speed senor brackets as well as the wheel drive shaft (4WD only). Using the j 43631 (BallJoint Remover) and j 45851 (BallJoint Separator Protector Adapters), remove upper ball joint retaining nut and disconnect upper ball joint from
Steering Knuckle. Then, there are the upper Control Arm nuts and adjustment cams that will need to be taken out, followed by the upper Control Arm bolts, after which the upper Control Arm comes out. Installation begins by installing the new upper Control Arm and bolts. Mount the upper Control Arm nuts and adjustment cams, and tighten to 175 n.m (129 lb ft). Connect the upper Control Arm to the Steering Knuckle and install the new upper ball joint retaining nut of 50 n.m (37 lb ft). If it is applicable, install the wheel drive shaft (4WD only) and the retaining bolts for the brake hose and wheel speed sensor brackets while tighten the brake hose bracket to Steering Knuckle bolt to 10 n.m (88 lb in) and the brake hose bracket to upper Control Arm Bolt to 10 n.m (88 lb in). Lastly, mount the whole tire and wheel, deflate the safety stands, lower the vehicle, verify the wheel alignment.
