To handle the replacement of the crankshaft rear oil seal, the automatic transmission flex plate must be removed. The crankshaft rear oil seal (141) should be removed from the back housing. It is important to ensure that the
Flywheel spacer (if applicable) is removed and don't lubricate the inside diameter (ID) of the oil seal or crankshaft face or parts prior to install the new oil seal. It is mandatory to use a new oil seal and pay attention to the installation direction because the type is new design (reverse lip type seal marked This Side Out). Start lubricating the outside diameter (OD) of the oil seal with new engine oil and look for the this side out markings at the seal. Now, apply clean engine oil on the rear housing oil seal bore. Install the j 41479 tapered cone and bolts on to the rear of the crankshaft by tightening the bolts as to become snug without overtightening them. Locate the rear oil seal and position it onto the tapered cone and press it into the rear cover bore, the this side out marks must be oriented from the engine. Thread in the j 41479 threaded rod to the tapered cone to where it touches the oil seal, align the oil seal into the tool and turn the handle of the tool clockwise to where the seal enters the rear cover to boot into the cover bore. Last, remove the j 41479 and replace it with the automatic transmission flex plate.
