The Water Pump found in various GMC Envoy cars is responsible for circulating a coolant from the radiator to the car's engine, where it is required to soak up heat produced during combustion. Many of Envoy models include a belt-driven water pump featuring an impeller for circulating coolant in the spaces of the engine's water jacket. Whereas in some of the older models the water pump casing could have been made of cast iron, today's pumps are primarily made from aluminum. Signs of a bad water pump are as follows; leaking coolant, loud sound due to bad bearings, and problems related to the overheating of the engine. High-performance water pumps are provided if the engines with reinforced impellers and new layouts of internal passages to augment the coolant flow and hone down the loss of mechanical power. Other additional options of the car include electric water pumps for better efficiency and cooling.

GMC Envoy Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the water pump on GMC Envoy?
    A:
The first step to replace the Water Pump involves draining the cooling system. Open the clamps on the Throttle Body air duct and maf/iat sensor before removing the outlet duct bolt and duct. Disassemble the 5.3l/6.0l engine's accessory drive belt tensioner before taking out the cooling fan and shroud. With j 38185 hose clamp pliers in hand you can shift the inlet hose clamp at the Water Pump and extract the inlet hose. Shift the outlet hose clamp to the side and disconnect both ends of the outlet hose. Also detach the auxiliary heater inlet and outlet hose/pipe nut. Use the j 38185 hose clamp pliers to shift the Throttle Body clamp before taking the hose away from its connection. Eliminate the Water Pump accessory heater hose clamps and take off the inlet and outlet tubes from their positions. Take out the Water Pump from its bolts and discard both gaskets along with the Water Pump itself. New bolts and gaskets must be installed to the Water Pump along with new gaskets before tightening the bolts to 15 n.m (11 lb ft) first and then to 30 n.m (22 lb ft) on the final pass. Position and tighten the auxiliary heater hose/pipe nut to 10 n.m until you secure it then attach both ends of the hose to the Throttle Body and inlet/outlet end. Reverse the steps to install Water Pump inlet and outlet hoses while moving the auxiliary heater hose clamps between their correct positions first. Put back the cooling fan assembly and shroud plus replace the accessory belt tensioner. Secure the air cleaner outlet sidepipe bolt and Throttle Body clamps with torque to 10 n.m (89 lb in) along with maf/iat sensor clamps at 7 n.m (62 lb in). Finally, fill the cooling system.
