How to replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on GMC Canyon?

The first step before replacing an engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor requires draining part of the cooling system down to the sensor's location. Remove the ect sensor electrical connector from its connector on the engine wiring harness and disconnect both electrical components before you remove the camshaft cover ect sensor electrical connector. Treat the coolant sensor delicately since any damage will reduce the fuel control system's performance. You can use the ect sensor socket (J 45861) to take out the ect sensor from its position in the Cylinder Head. You must use gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent thread sealer when installing any ect sensor without applying sealant. Start by inserting the ect sensor into the Cylinder Head by hand and lock it in place with the ect sensor socket (J 45861) at a torque of 14 n.m (10 lb ft). After installing the ect sensor electrical connector to the camshaft cover reconnect the engine wiring harness to its respective connector on the ect sensor and top up the cooling system.
