  You will need the brake pedal effort gauge (J 28662) tool set to replace the front brake caliper. Start by examining the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level; when it is higher than the middle between maximum full and minimum safe points; drain fluid to this point. Lift the vehicle and take off its tire and wheel before proceeding with the job. Insert two lug wheel nuts to keep rotor connected to hub while placing a large c-clamp directly above the caliper to push the caliper piston towards the caliper bore. Separate the brake hose from the brake caliper by removing the bolt and hose end bolt. Also discard the two stuck copper brake hose gaskets on the caliper and hose. Seal all brake caliper and hose openings before you clean dust and corrosion from the area around the brake hose fitting. After detaching the brake caliper bolts you can remove the brake caliper from its mounting bracket. Look for damage in the brake caliper pin boots then replace them when needed while also testing the pin for rust and replacing it when necessary. Mount the caliper bolt boots before placing the caliper on the caliper bracket using appropriate fixing components. Secure the brake caliper bolts to 54 nm (40 lb ft) while adding new copper brake hose gaskets plus the brake hose bolt and hose. Replace the rotor nuts before placing the wheel and tire back on the vehicle and letting it drop to the floor. Top up the master cylinder with brake fluid to the right level. Check for brake system leaks after bleeding through the brake channels while pushing the brake pedal 778 nm (175 lb ft) with the brake pedal effort gauge (J 28662) for 10 seconds.

  Getting the caliper piston seal installer (J 35777) and other required tools should be your first step when servicing and repairing the front brake caliper. Do not put your fingers in front of the brake piston(s) when you use compressed air to remove the caliper, as the pistons can be projected out with force. Clean cloth should cover the inside of the caliper housing as you use compressed air to eject the piston out through its boot. Make sure to check the piston for any scoring, nicks, corrosion, or chrome wear, and change it out if there is a problem. Take care when removing the piston boot with a flat-bladed tool so the housing bore isn't scratched, then use a small wooden or plastic tool to take out the piston seal from the caliper bore groove. Look over the caliper bore and seal grooves for any harm; if you notice only light corrosion, use crocus cloth to clean it; change the caliper if corrosion cannot be cleaned. Be sure to look for any cuts or tears on the brake caliper bolt boots, and make sure the bolts do not have corrosion; replace them if required but don't try to polish corroded bolts. Take off the bleeder valve cap and bleeder valve from the caliper, clean all of the parts with denatured alcohol, and dry them with non-lubricated compressed air. Reassemble by putting in both the bleeder valve and cap, lubricating the new piston seal with delco supreme 11(R) gm p/n 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667) or an approved dot-3 brake fluid, and making certain the piston seal is straight while installing it. Lubricate the Brake Caliper Piston, place it with the boot in the caliper bore, push both all the way to the bottom, and use j 35777 to set the boot in the caliper housing counterbore before you install the caliper onto the vehicle.
