  Start this repair by obtaining these tools: Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (J 35566) together with Drive Shaft Seal Clamp Pliers (J 42572). Two tools you need are Drive Axle Seal Clamp Pliers (J 35566) along with Drive Shaft Seal Clamp Pliers (J 42572). Start by removing the small wheel drive shaft bar seal clamp with side cutters then discard the clamp before you take out the large seal clamp from the tripot joint being careful not to damage the trilobal tripot bushing. After separating the inboard seal from the trilobal tripot bushing you should slide it down the wheel drive shaft bar. First remove the housing from the tripot joint spider and wheel drive shaft bar then extract the guide from the spring followed by the spring from the tripot housing. Record the correct 60-degree angular reference point of the tripot spider as it sits on the wheel drive shaft bar before disassembly to use during reinstallation. First compress the barrel retaining ring on the wheel drive shaft bar using a brass drift and hammer tool before discarding the tripot spider. Check for any signs of wear or damage on the wheel drive shaft inboard seal along with the tripot joint spider assembly, housing and trilobal tripot bushing. For assembly use a new small seal clamp on the small end of the joint seal then position the joint seal onto the wheel drive shaft bar where the small end enters the joint seal groove . Use the J 42572 to crimp the small seal retaining clamp then apply 136 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) torque to it. When reassembling the system place the new barrel retaining ring on the wheel drive shaft bar while using the reference mark on the tripot spider to match the direction of the shaft bar before placing the beveled edge of the tripot spider in the same orientation. Pack the wheel drive shaft inboard seal with grease from the service kit before checking that the tripot spider engages with the wheel drive shaft bar and that the trilobal tripot bushing touches the housing face. Prep the tripot housing with grease before installing the spring along with the guide. Afterward, put the trilobal tripot bushing into the housing. Place the larger seal retaining clamp onto the wheel drive shaft inboard seal while sliding the housing across the tripot joint spider assembly until the large diameter of the wheel drive shaft inboard seal reaches its proper position. Check the seal's form before making any needed adjustments. The J 35566 aligns the wheel drive shaft inboard seal with the tripot housing and large seal retaining clamp before latching. The procedure requires using the J 35566 to verify full tang engagement and rotating the inner tripot housing 4 or 5 times to distribute grease through the tripot spider bearings.
