The Neutral Safety Switch of Chevrolet Trailblazer automobiles is a safety component to protect the vehicle from starting unless the transmission is at a neutral or park position. This mechanism helps to prevent the vehicle from moving unintended when starting up thus increasing overall safety for drivers and their passengers. In the course of time, different kinds of Neutral Safety Switches have been used in the Chevrolet Trailblazer models, however, with the different design and installation but are basically used for the same purpose. These may be as a result of improvement in technology or changes in designing the vehicles but all of them serve the basic purpose of preventing vehicles to move accidentally during ignition processes. The Chevrolet Trailblazer's Neutral Safety Switch is thus a very important feature in enhancing safety use of vehicles.

Chevrolet Trailblazer Neutral Safety Switch Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Chevrolet Trailblazer?
    A:
Disconnect the speedometer cable and then unscrew the phosphate juice filler cap from the transmission case. Then, remove the shift linkage. To change the park/neutral position switch, lock the parking brake and place the transmission either in park or neutral. Lift the vehicle and wear off the nut that hold up the transmission control lever to the manual shaft, then pull out the transmission control lever. Remove the electrical connectors from the switch, and then unbolt the park/neutral position switch to the transmission, followed by removal of the switch from the manual shaft. Use a file to smooth out the outer edges of the manual shaft if the slider doesn't slide ut easily. For installation, the switch hub flats should be realigned with the manual shaft flats, following which the switch is slid onto shaft until the mounting bracket contacts the transmission's mounting bosses. If a fresh switch is being installed then it will also possess a positive assurance bracket and therefore there won't be any need for the neutral position adjustment tool. Mount the switch to the transmission using two of the bolts finger tight, then apply the tool j 41364-a (J 41364-A) onto the switch when the slots line up with the tabs of the tool. Rotate the tool and the upper locator pin should intercept the slot on the switch; after which, tighten the bolts to 25 n.m (18 LB FT). Remove the tool and depending on the case the positive assurance bracket might be removed also. Reconnect the electrical connectors to the switch, insert the transmission control lever onto the manual shaft with the nut, what you will tighten to 25 n.m (18 lb ft). At last, reduce the vehicle and examine the switch to correctly function guaranteeing the guide does not start if the position is different from the p (Park) or n (Neutral). If this is not functioning properly, replace the switch.
