The Fan Shroud in Chevrolet Trailblazer automotive has the critical purpose of increasing the efficiency of the cooling process. The Fan Shroud simply surrounds the cooling fan and works in a manner that enhances air flow so that the fan is able to perform at its optimal and at the same time protect the blades of the fan from and obstacles lying around. Another function covered by this protective structure is to regulate the temperature of the engine and avoid over-heating. Different models of Trailblazer may have used different styles of Fan Shroud over the years, each having been developed to suit a particular Trailblazer engine and cooling capacity. The first difference between these types of hoods is in the hood design which can be different from the overall car cooling system configuration which in turn influences airflow and cooling.

Chevrolet Trailblazer Fan Shroud Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the cooling fan and fan shroud on Chevrolet Trailblazer?
    A:
The procedure of replacing the cooling fan and shroud begins by taking out the hood latch support and disconnecting transmission cooler lines at the engine until the Fan Shroud is free. Drain the cooling system after you remove the two upper bolts from the Fan Shroud. Apply hose clamp pliers tool j 38185 to position the upper inlet Radiator Hose clamp before removing the hose from the Radiator. Break the connection between the electrical shroud power then position the Water Pump with its bolts orienting vertically. Use a counterclockwise rotation to remove the Water Pump shaft fan hub nut while the fan clutch remover and installer (J 46406) keeps the Water Pump Pulley stable before unscrewing the cooling fan hub nut. The Fan Shroud requires unclipping from the Radiator side panel before tilting the Radiator forward and raising the fan and shroud towards the engine inlet opening. Secure the fan and shroud onto the Radiator bottom lip before tightening two bolts at the upper Fan Shroud to 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs.). Secure the Water Pump Pulley using the fan clutch remover (J 46406) while installing the fan nut at the Water Pump shaft in a clockwise direction until reaching 56 nm (41 ft. Lbs.) torque. Complete the installation by attaching the transmission cooler lines to the engine followed by installation of Fan Shroud before putting the hood latch support back in place in combination with attaching and clamping the upper inlet Radiator Hose using hose clamp pliers (J 38185) before filling the cooling system.
