The Ball Joint of Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles is an important component of the suspensions system that connects the steering knuckles and the control arm so that they can rotate angularly about the ball joint but cannot translate. They are mainly located in the front suspension as they are encapsulated in a rubber like material hence protection from dirt and enabling the circulation of lubricants. The rubber seals of the ball joints tend to wear out over time and this lets in water which causes some degree of corrosion and greatly programmed wear and tear. If the vehicle if often used on rough terrains and one hears a knocking sound while driving then it is high time to have the ball joints of the Chevrolet Tahoe changed to provide safe driving facilities.

Chevrolet Tahoe Ball Joint Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the upper ball joint on Chevrolet Tahoe?
    A:
Initial vehicle lifting and supporting are required to service the upper Ball Joint. Take out the tire and wheel first then disconnect the upper Control Arm from the vehicle. The upper Ball Joint needs to be taken out using a Ball Joint press tool. The new Ball Joint needs to fit with the flat edges or notches located just like the old Ball Joint to avoid damage when installing. Move the pressed installation tool inside to place the upper Ball Joint correctly followed by reattachment of the upper Control Arm and tire and wheel assembly. After installation put the safety stands back before lowering the vehicle. End by checking the wheel alignment against official standards that apply to pickup trucks and utility vehicles with rwd or 4wd.
  • Q: How to replace the lower control arm ball joint (1500) on Chevrolet Tahoe?
    A:
First position the vehicle on jack stands to replace the lower Control Arm Ball Joint in model 1500. Take off the wheel drive shaft only if needed. First secure the knuckle away from its position on the Control Arm before taking out the Steering Knuckle from the car. Strike locking tabs from the Ball Joint body using a hammer chisel and safety tools. Fix the ch 41805 - Ball Joint remover install kit tool onto the lower Control Arm while applying a shallow socket to remove the lower Ball Joint from the Control Arm. When you place the new Ball Joint in the lower Control Arm make sure that teeth for the lock tabs are in their upward position on adapter ch-49240-2. Install the Ball Joint with a shallow socket from the ch 41805 - Ball Joint crimper and install kit and tighten the components using adapter ch-49240-2 for 250 nm (184 lb ft). Check that all new lock tabs have the same depth before rotating ch 41805 and repeating the installation cycle. Put back the wheel drive shaft and attach the Steering Knuckle into the vehicle if necessary. Complete the installation by placing the lowering Ball Joint stud nut and tightening it first to 50 nm (37 lb ft) then continuing to 95 degrees on the final turn. Lower the vehicle after taking away the installed parts.
