The replacement process begins by taking out the
Intake Manifold and pushrods before placing everything in a rack to maintain proper reinstallation. You should first remove the bolts with the lifter pushrod guide and then place valve lifters in an upright rack to prevent oil loss. The valve lifter remover (J 3049-A) must be used to break the grips of lifters that have become stuck from gum or varnish deposits. Before engine block replacement check valve lifter bores with cleaning solvent and shop towels for signs of wear or scoring. It is essential to inspect and clean the
Camshaft for wear and damage. At the same time, check and clean the lifters if needed. New lifters require lubrication forrollers before installation. When using existing lifters reinstall them exactly where they were before. Place the lifters first before placing the lifter pushrod guides and tightening all bolts to 12 lb ft torque then add pushrods and lastly put on the Intake Manifold.
