Commence front door hinge replacement by first clearing all associated parts followed by removing excess sealer from the present hinge location and writing down the position on the hinge pillar. Scrape away the 100 grit or finer surface of the existing hinge to identify its four door weld locations while marking the weld centers for drilling later. Use a center punch to mark the centers of the four weld marks on the original hinge base while avoiding drill penetration of the door. Drive a 13 mm (1/2 in) rotabroach hole saw through the hinge base to match the punch points. Thoroughly remove the hinge by using a chisel as needed while clearing away all remaining weld material so the service hinge can fit without gaps to the door surface. After fixing any door harm caused by drilling or hinge removal you should clean and prepare both backing plate mounting surfaces with a flat profile fit. Set the service hinge inside the door scribe marks then use center punches to mark each hole position according to the hinge. Drill three center punch holes with a 3mm (1/8 inch) pilot drill starting from the exact drill bit size before moving to the 11.5mm (29/64 inch) hole at these pilot markings. All exposed metal parts need preparation followed by approved anti-corrosion primer coating before applying full-bodied caulk to create a secure boundary across entire hinge mounting surfaces. A 100 grit or finer sandpaper should lightly sand the existing hinge to reveal its four door welds while you puncture the centers to help with drilling future removal steps. Apply center punches to the four weld marks on the original hinge without penetrating into the hinge pillar material. The hole drilling process requires a 13 mm (1/2 in) rotabroach hole saw to penetrate each punch mark on the hinge structure. After using a chisel to remove the hinge you must clean the pillar surface until it becomes level with the service hinge. Set the service hinge inside scribe marks and mark each stud position on the pillar before drilling pilot holes at the center punch marks. The first drilling step involves using a 3 mm (1/8 in) bit for drilling pilot holes at center punch locations but this needs to be followed by drilling 11.5 mm (29/64 in) holes at these same pilot locations for the studs. The procedure requires preparation of uncoated metal surfaces along with the use of an authorized anti-corrosion primer on these areas. Feed fish wire, GM P/N 15017229, through the hinge, the hinge stud hole, and out of the conduit hole in the pillar. Using the wire end on the stud part GM P/N 15017230 you should position the stud while holding the hinge's hole and removing the fish wire. After fitting the pillar with supplied nut GM P/N 11516746 draw the stud tight through each pillar hole before proceeding with other stud installments. Remove each of the service nuts before applying full-bodied caulk to the entire mounting surface of the hinge. Reinstall the pillar-mounted hinge by using the supplied nuts but tighten them to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). First clean all necessary surfaces before sealant application for refinishing purposes after which surfaces need finishing before reinstalling components and lining up their related panels.
