How to replace the rear Trunk Lock Cylinder on Chevrolet Malibu?

You must first take off the rear compartment lid applique to change the lock cylinder. A flat bladed tool helps detach the rear compartment lid lock cable from the lock cylinder. Disassemble the lock cylinder from the rear compartment lid by removing its rivets and then pulling out both parts with the gasket. Insert the lock cylinder and gasket onto the lid first, install the rivets to hold them in place, and push the rear compartment lock cable onto the cylinder until both retainer tabs are secure. Replace the rear compartment lid applique last.
