To remove the Steering Wheel, first disconnect the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system to prevent deployment of the air bag and to avoid personal injury. Note the position of the
Steering Column trim covers and remove them. Also remove the inflator module. Next, remove the Steering Wheel nut, and use the j 1859-a Steering Wheel puller (J 1859-A) along with the j 42120 Steering Wheel puller legs (J 42120) to pull the Steering Wheel safely off the Steering Column without causing damage. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the column and route them through the Steering Wheel opening prior to removing the Steering Wheel from the vehicle. For installation, run the electrical connectors through the opening in the Steering Wheel again; connect the connectors to the Steering Column , and fit the Steering Wheel on the Steering Column . Fix the Steering Wheel nut to the Steering Wheel; ensure it's tightened to 37 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). Finally, fit the inflator module and the Steering Column trim covers, and bring the sir system into operation.
