How to replace the steering wheel on Chevrolet Impala?

The replacement process for steering wheels begins by disabling the restraints system and then switching off ignition power. First scribe a reference mark across the Steering Wheel hub before aligning it to the cut mark on the Steering Shaft. Use a wrench to turn the nut counterclockwise until its edge meets the Steering Shaft's end. The Steering Wheel puller (J 1859-A) with Steering Wheel puller legs (J 42578) should be assembled to use for unseating the Steering Wheel from its position on the Steering Shaft. First use the puller assembly to unseat the Steering Wheel from the Steering Shaft before removing the Steering Shaft nut and Steering Wheel itself from the shaft and finally disconnecting the sir connector from the Steering Wheel. To install the sir connector just run it through the Steering Wheel before setting the scribe mark to match the Steering Shaft's slash mark and mounting the Steering Wheel. Begin by installing the Steering Shaft nut to a torque setting of 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.) then put on the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module before enabling restraints system operations.
