You need to perform this task on the right Exhaust Manifold (4.3L) by first raising the vehicle and taking off the right front tire and right fender wheelhouse extension. Start by disconnecting the
Spark Plug Wires from their positions. Then unscrew both bolts and the support which holds the wires. The
Starter and
Catalytic Converter assembly should be taken away from the vehicle next. Access Exhaust Manifold bolts through the wheelhouse and remove them and the Exhaust Manifold, Exhaust Manifold gaskets along with
Spark Plug wire shields from the engine. First clean all gasket surfaces after which attach the new gaskets and Spark Plug wire shields along with bolts onto the Exhaust Manifold while relying on gasket tabs to maintain bolt position. The Exhaust Manifold installation requires two tightening passes at 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.) followed by 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). You should reinstall the Catalytic Converter assembly with the Starter before you add the Spark Plug wire support and its corresponding bolts which need to be tightened up to 12 nm (106 inch lbs.). After that install the fender wheelhouse extension, put back the front tire and lower the vehicle while reconnecting the Spark Plug Wires.
