Chevrolet Cobalt Coolant Reservoir is a container, which is also known as the coolant recovery tank since it is there to store the extra coolant fluid preventing its spillage and the access of fresh air into the system. There are two main types of coolant reservoirs used in Cobalt vehicles: expansion tanks systems and over flow tanks systems. In the overflow system the coolant just pours over to the recovery tank when pressure goes higher than the cap pressure while the expansion tank is integrated into the pressure containing cooling system and it's utility includes to contain both expanding and contracting coolant. It is advised to periodically find some presence of crack, leakage or any rust coloration on the coolant recovery tank.

Chevrolet Cobalt Coolant Reservoir Parts and Q&A

  • Q: What tools are required to service and repair the coolant reservoir for surge tank replacement on Chevrolet Cobalt?
    A:
Construction of the coolant reservoir needs these specified tools: Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185). Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185). Start by performing a cooling system drain. Use Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) to reposition one clamp on the coolant reservoir inlet hose before extracting the hose entirely from the coolant reservoir. First remove the underhood junction block bracket nuts (1, 2) and the underhood junction block bracket bolt from their positions. Push up the underhood junction block bracket then move it away from the coolant reservoir location. Use the Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) to reposition the coolant reservoir outlet hose clamp then raise the coolant reservoir and detach the coolant reservoir outlet hose. First disconnect the electrical connector from the coolant level sensor before pulling out the coolant reservoir. After positioning the coolant reservoir install the coolant level sensor electrical connector. Install the coolant reservoir outlet hose while elevating the coolant reservoir and tighten it by moving the hose clamp with Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185). Fasten the coolant reservoir nut to a torque of 10 N.m (89 lb in). Set the underhood junction block bracket into position before installing both underhood junction block bracket nuts (1, 2) with 10 N.m (88 lb in) torque settings then tighten the underhood junction block bracket bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Secure the coolant reservoir inlet hose by using Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185) to reposition the clamp and top off the cooling system.
