How to replace a two-piece drive shaft on Chevrolet Camaro?

Vehicle elevation and support must occur at the first step when replacing a two-piece propeller shaft. Note how the propeller shaft positions regarding the pinion gear yoke before setting an adjustable stand to support the propeller shaft at its support bearing location. The support bearing and washers can be detached from the torque arm by removing its bolts. After the propeller shaft bolting points are removed you should extract the propeller shaft retainers with careful support of the shaft. First extract the Slip Yoke from the transmission and then guide propeller shaft (1 and 4) toward the rear to pass underneath the housing. When bearing caps show looseness you should combine them with tape to stop needle roller bearings from escaping. Because transmission output shaft splines should align properly with the Slip Yoke it is essential to check for both burrs on the outer diameter and damage to the Slip Yoke splines. The pinion gear yoke needs inspection for foreign material and burrs at its Universal Joint cap mating surface. If burrs or foreign material exist replace or repair the pinion gear yoke. To install the Slip Yoke it needs to receive chassis lubricant before being placed onto the transmission output shaft. Support the propeller shaft center at the adjustable stand and synchronize both pairs of reference marks between the shaft and yoke. Fit the rear section of the propeller shaft onto its corresponding pinion gear yoke position while making sure the bearing caps stay seated correctly. The propeller shaft retainers should be installed with propeller shaft bolts tightened to 22 nm (16 ft. Lbs.) at each bolt in a uniform pattern. The washers and support bearing need to be reattached to the torque arm and support bearing bolts should be tightened to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Finish the procedure by taking away the adjustable stand under the propeller shaft then lower the vehicle to the ground.
