A proper start to repairing the surge tank hose/pipe outlet for 4.8l, 5.3l, and 6.0l engines requires draining the cooling system first. Begin service by unclasping the air cleaner outlet duct fasteners from the
Throttle Body and mass airflow/intake air temperature (MAF/IAT) sensor then remove the air cleaner outlet duct. The surge tank/heater outlet hose requires removal from its mounting clip but only when the vehicle does not feature the regular production option (RPO) c36 auxiliary heater. To perform this action, vehicles with rpo c36 should follow the identical instructions. The heater line quick connect release tool (J43181) allows users to guide the black surge tank outlet hose into the quick connect end until the tool makes contact. Pull the outlet hose from the heater and blower module by gripping it firmly without considering whether the vehicle has rpo c36. Start by relocating the surge tank outlet hose clamp to its position on the surge tank. Afterward remove the surge tank outlet hose from the surge tank and move the clamp to the
Water Pump where you can finally detach the hose from the Water Pump. Screw in the new bore tank outlet hose to the Water Pump while also clamping it in place afterwards. Connect the surge tank outlet hose to the surge tank before placing the clamp in its proper position. When working on vehicles with rpo c36 you must push the surge tank outlet hose onto the heater and blower module until a clicking sound indicates proper connection. After installation position the surge tank/heater outlet hose to its mounting clip if applicable. Reinstall the air cleaner outlet duct by aligning its arrow mark with the throat valve stud then torque the throat body and maf/iat sensor clamps to 7 nm (62 inch lbs.) tension before filling your cooling system.
