  Remove the front cover of the engine and the Oil Pump if you need to change the Timing Chain. Align the timing marks, and afterwards pull the secondary camshaft drive chains, then the Timing Chain tensioner. Next take out the intermediate sprocket retaining bolt and pull the Timing Chain, crankshaft sprocket, and intermediate sprocket as an assembly. The intermediate shaft is only meant to be removed if there is evidence of wear. Then, disconnect the intermediate sprocket shaft retaining bolts and then the intermediate sprocket shaft. Inspect the camera intermediate sprocket shaft and clean it. For install phase the first thing to install is the intermediate sprocket shaft along with retaining bolts which should be tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs). Play the timing marks of intermediate and crank shaft sprocket vertically, then place Timing Chain over the drive sprockets. It is important to have the number 1 piston in top dead center (TDC) with the crankshaft keyway pointing at the 1 o'clock position using the crankshaft rotation socket (J 39946) which will align the crankshafts key with the drive sprocket. Install the Timing Chain, crankshaft sprocket, and intermediate sprocket as an assembly with intermediate sprocket retaining bolt which has to be tightened 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs). Never remove pin that fastens the tensioner until secondary timing chains are installed. Mount the Timing Chain tension and the secondary camshaft drive chain. Take out the pin from the Timing Chain tensioner release lever and make sure that the timing marks are aligning themselves vertically. Lastly, fit the Oil Pump and the engine front cover.
