The Timing Chain in Cadillac Eldorado cars is responsible for the coordination of the camshaft and crankshaft, a role that makes the valve handling appropriate for the vehicle's engine. Located forward within the engine, this part has to be lubricated and is usually installed on higher output engines. Of all Cadillac Eldorado models, some have employed metal timing chains, which have gained popularity since 1990s more especially because they are durable and do not require regular replacement as in the case with the rubber timing belts. Timing chains are normally durable but some problems that may occur emanate from faulty lubrication, problems with the tensioner and the chain guides; the evidence here is a rattling sound from the front of the engine. High mobility pushrod engines use short chain drives to reduce noise and wear, making it possible to adopt it in the Eldorado.

Cadillac Eldorado Timing Chain Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the LH secondary camshaft timing chain on Cadillac Eldorado?
    A:
To replace the left secondary camshaft drive chain, one first needs to collect tools such as: camshaft holding tool (J 44212). Start with the removal of the right secondary camshaft drive chain and then the left secondary drive chain tensioner with the left camshaft cover. Make sure both camshaft sprockets drive pins are at the top of their rotation. Put on the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) onto the camshafts, and tighten an open-end wrench onto the hex cast into the camshaft to prevent rotation when loosening the left intake camshaft sprocket bolt. The left intake camshaft sprocket bolt should be removed; the left intake camshaft sprocket will slid off the camshaft, and the left secondary camshaft drive chain would be needed off the camshaft sprocket teeth. Remove the left secondary camshaft drive chain from the teeth of the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket, and slide it out of the engine. To install, you slide the left secondary camshaft drive chain down through the left cylinder head and hook it up to the left exhaust camshaft sproket tooth and around the teeth of the camshaft intermediate drive shaft sprocket inner teeth row. Mount the left intake camshaft sprocket onto the left secondary camshaft chain move, and onto the camshaft with the sprocket notch marked li meshed with intake camshaft pin. Repeat the same process using the open-end wrench to prevent rotation for the process of tightening the camshaft sprocket bolt to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Remove the camshaft holding tool (J 44212) from the camshafts and replace it with the left camshaft cover, left secondary drive chain tensioner and then the right secondary camshaft drive chain can be refitted.
