  To service and repair the Crankshaft Position Sensor, start by installing a scan tool and check the powertrain control module for dtcs and be aware that if some dtcs other than the p1336 are present check the dtc list for further information. Choose crankshaft position variation learn function on the scan tool and see fuel cut-off for the engine in question. Follow the scan tool's instructions: disable the drive wheels, engage the parking brake of the vehicle, cycle the ignition from off to on, press & hold the Brake Pedal, the engine should be started & idling, turn off the a/c and park the vehicle (A/T) or neutral (M/T). The scan tool will observe selected signals of the components, which include ckp sensor activity, cmp sensor activity, and engine coolant temperature; if any conditions are not met, then tackle them accordingly. Once set, enable the crankshaft position system variation learn procedure, and release the throttle as soon as the engine begins to decelerate, so that the engine control gets back to the operator. Slowly increase the engine to the observed rpm and throttle close at fuel cut-off. The scan tool will show "learn status:" learned this ignition." when this message is not displayed and no other dtcs are present, also check the symptoms of the engine; if a dtc is indicated, see the dtc list for further information.
