The Cadillac DTS Starter is an important part of the vehicle that converts the battery energy into the mechanical energy to turn the engine. These are through an externally mounted solenoid drawing current from the battery to the starter motor. Within the starter, the rotating armature moves within the field coils or permanent magnets sufficient torque production is created. I came to know that the starter drive meshes with the flywheel of the engine once the key is turned to START, and an over running clutch releases the same once the engine begins to run. In Cadillac DTS vehicles over several years the starters that have been used include the gear reduction starter wherein there is a reduction gear that assist in the start by engaging the drive. While ordinary starters are the ones that come with the engine, high compression motors have high torque requirements and therefore, the OE starters may mess up in delivering this. That is why the choice of starter technology has changed, progressing in tandem with the requirements for the reliability and power of modern cars.

Cadillac DTS Starter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the starter motor on Cadillac DTS?
    A:
To replace the Starter motor, you should first disconnect the negative cable of the battery and remove the Intake Manifold. Next, remove the "bat" terminal nut and the "s" terminal nut from the Starter and remove the Starter solenoid cable and remove the Starter motor bolts to remove the Starter motor. To install, replace the Starter motor back to position, then locate the large terminal locator tab in the slot of the Starter solenoid retention, fit the bolts to the Starter motor and tighten with a torque of 25n.m 18lb ft. Connect the Starter solenoid cable, the following "s" terminal nut, which needs to be pouring to 4 n.m (35 lb in), and the "bat" terminal nut, which needs to be tightened to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Lastly, replace the Intake Manifold and attach the negative Battery Cable.
