How to Replace the Front Brake Dust Shields (FE1) on Cadillac CTS?

Start the process of replacing the front disc Brake Dust Shields (FE1) by lifting the vehicle using lift supports and removing both tire and wheel assembly. It's essential to maintain the brake caliper from its mounting point using heavy mechanic's wire or equivalent support when hydraulic flexible brake hose stays connected to prevent brake fluid leaks from damaged hoses. Remove the brake caliper assembly from the suspension knuckle while maintaining the hydraulic brake flexible hose free of tension without disconnecting it. As a next step remove both the Steering Knuckle wheel bearing assembly and the dust shields that cover it. Use the wheel hub resurfacing kit (J 42450-A) to clean rust and contaminants from wheel bearing flange and brake rotor mating surfaces before installing the new dust shields since this will minimize lateral runout and brake pulsation. Clean the Steering Knuckle surface where it mates with the dust shields before installing the dust shields and wheel bearing assembly. After reattaching the brake caliper with caliper bracket to the suspension knuckle install the tire wheel assembly and finally lower the vehicle.
